Process to cutting an old propane tank

As mentioned above, propane tanks often accumulate the chemical that is used to make the gas smell bad in the bottom of the tank. I've heard the sludge from that is just awful, nasty, disgusting to deal with. You've been warned. I don't know that I'd want to cook in an old propane tank.

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

Actually, bare metal is part of the theme of the room (industrial/warehouse look). If you notice on the table there are metal plates as accent pieces which cover where some structural bolts were used (versus a more traditional wood dowel plug setup). So using a frame made of metal would have...

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

Figured I should follow this up now that the project is completed. Here's the torsion box I built inside the table top frame (minus the final piece of MDF on top to sandwich things). And the finished table. The combination of relief cuts in the maple slabs (about 2.25" deep into the 3" slab...

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

The torsion box out of 3/4" MDF resolved my issues. Happy days....

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

The twist free is between 3/8" and 3/4" (varies on each of the 3 planks). I did relief cuts about 2.25" deep about every 3". The planks are 3" thick. Both ends pull up. With the relief cuts I can pull them down with moderate pressure. Gradual twist on the full length. I have now built a torsion...

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

I can get them flat with pressure on them. I have actually put relief cuts in the planks for this. The problem is that the perimeter frame isn't rigid enough so when the weight is removed the planks twist the frame/legs. I think the torsion box will solve my issues. I'm not sure if steam would...

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

I think I've settled on building a torsion box.

How to build a rigid metal frame to resist twist?

If I needed to make a frame out of metal which would be used to mount boards for a bench/table top, what would be the best material to make it out of to resist twisting (i.e. where one or opposite corners want to twist)? Angle, rect tube, round tube, something else? And what should the...

    Welcome to Welding Site!

And before anyone jumps on to say "well you have scripting turned off... turn it on and it will be better!!"... Yes, I realize that. But I don't like allowing sites to run any scripting they want so I leave it off mostly. Lots of people use NoScript and the site should not be handicapped when...

    Welcome to Welding Site!

I really would prefer the forum interface that TBN uses. I don't allow web sites to run scripts (mostly) so the functionality of the editor interface leaves a lot to be desired on this site compared to TBN. There are only 2-3 lines visible at a time and no 'preview' button. Even with scripts...

What have you built this year?

Why are there both 'Projects' and 'Fabrication' sections? Seems like the same thing. I posted my fab project over there... https://weldingsite.com/threads/built-my-own-lawn-roller.46/

    Built my own lawn roller

I made my own lawn roller this spring. Started with an ancient (1960's) steel water softener resin tank. Was about 44" tall and 12" diameter and 1/8" steel. Removed the plumbing, emptied it out, fabbed up a frame and turned it into a functional roller. Mocked up the frame using 2x2 1/4" angle...

    Any Hobart Welder Owners?

I just got a Handler 210 MVP MIG welder. Used a Lincoln AC-225 stick welder for years, though not really that often. I just never got good at using it. Welded up a couple semi-significant projects with my 210 so far and I have to say I love MIG! Between the settings chart and a new...
