What size generator to run stick welder?

I agree I use an 8KVA generator that performs well. You might get by with a 6KVA but it will not like it

My projects - farm repairs and minor fabrication

I persisted with a 130A transformer-type for years and did many minor jobs, but since buying a Rossi Inverter welder productivity has increased out of all proportion to the cost - a mere $A140 including delivery. This little beast will weld thin materials like trailer mudguards as well as much...

    Ideas for old trailer

Completely agree. I was given one and it dd reasonable service even on the road for several years before the sub-frame went beyond the point of being fixable, despite several additions of angle etc being welded on. However, for collecting firewood in the bush it certainly does the job and who...

Process to cutting an old propane tank

It is quite easy. Best to rinse the tank out with soapy water then use an angle grinder. Cut off one end to make the door and fabricate a custom hinge. Note the air intake tube below the main chamber - you need to make a couple of a removable components so you can remove the slag

What size generator to run stick welder?

Well there are certainly smarter guys around than me, but my 8KVA generator (6500W continuous) has no trouble at all driving a Rossi Inverter welder at almost any power setting. The old transformer unit I used to use struggled a bit, but it still did the job. No way would I change from the...

    Plasma Table

Well done - nicely made. Mine is similar except for a solid plate one end that makes it easier to clamp components for welding. The frame was cut down from an old single steel bed frame and other than the cross-pieces, everything came out the scrap collection Yes, a concrete floor would...

Dozer blade, needed it made it

Nice job but the actual blade material looks like only about 15 mm thick and if you hit a rock it may bend. I'd be inclined to add two or three "stiffeners" to prevent that. The forces can be extreme - ask me how I know that - even with a much stronger unit

    Shop tools and tractor repairs

Thanks. Pinched the general concept from various images on the web. The frame was cut down from an old single bed frame and reinforced at the corners for the uprights. The hopper was the hardest part - fabricated from the top cover of an old rainwater tank. Steel for the cross rails was the...

What size generator to run stick welder?

If you are using an Inverter welder, you will find a 6 KVA generator adequate, but an 8 KVA will be better. Even running an old-style welder the 8 did the job, though it did struggle.

    Shop tools and tractor repairs

I use my little Rossi welder several times every month - always have various jobs to do. Recently: Welding/cutting table for Plasma cutter and welder Repair to tractor jib (bent when loading a huge tractor tire onto trailer) Repairs to old farm trailer Articulated cylinder bracket for front...

How did you find Welding Site?

Yes - Tractor Bynet - a great source of information for those of us who live in the bush and have machinery to maintain, repair and fabricate. Looking forward to seeing the contributions on weldingsite.com too. Good work!
