    Butt joint stick welding

Thanks. Sorry for the delay. My settings here must be such that I wasn't notified of the responses. I ended up clamping, tacking and moving around with short runs. The pieces did draw in significantly even while clamped. A couple of passes on the opposite side took care of about 90% of it. I was...

    Butt joint stick welding

I also have some 1/8" 7018 that I picked up today. Or now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should weld the angle perpendicular and tack the weld joint and then move over to some saw horses to weld the joint?

    Butt joint stick welding

Or maybe I can clamp down on my work and avoid the need for tacking the angle perpendicular?

    Butt joint stick welding

I'm a novice. I'm going to butt weld two pieces of 1/2" plate. They are 6" wide by 36" long. I'd like to join them to make a piece that's 12" x 36" for a top on a tool stand. I have some 1/8" 6011 and 5/32" 6013. I've never welded material of this size and am looking for some guidance. I'm...

    Troubleshooting Popping

My torch says "CA27-V". I contacted Airgas and they told me that they don't sell parts for Victor. Their corporate told me that it is a discontinued torch and they don't sell parts. When I asked if they could provide me with part numbers so I could at least find something on ebay, they stopped...

    Map-Propane tanks

I'll try that then. I'm pretty sure I have some Brasso in my cabinet. Thanks.

    Troubleshooting Popping

I haven't actually tried to cut with it yet. But it does pop when the cutting lever is depressed. No more or less than during a neutral flame. Kind of random every 5-10 seconds or so. It basically pops during any type of flame that includes any amount of oxygen. But again, I haven't tried to cut...

    Troubleshooting Popping

I've posted prior about the same rig but this is a different issue so I thought I'd start a new thread. I have this little setup. The little plastic caddie with the small tanks. I really have no history on the setup as it was given to me. Oxygen is reading over 2000 and acetylene at about...

    Map-Propane tanks

I have several old map/propane tanks. Some of them have a little rust on the threads/seats. They're 1/2 full but I'm concerned about adequate sealing. Is there a way to clean these off safely or should I get rid of them somehow?

    Flash-Back Arrestor

Looks like I may be starting from scratch anyway...the valve on the acetylene is leaking. I'll upgrade my tanks. It's one of those with the little key instead of a knob.

    Flash-Back Arrestor

Do you think there's any problem with having arrestors installed just behind built-in arrestors on the torch? Reason I ask is that I don't think the torch has built-in check valves. The inline set I have does both. So I'll have 2 arrestors and 1 check valve per line at the torch end. Thanks.

    Flash-Back Arrestor

Looks like I have a Victor torch and tip. The handle says WH27FC-V and the actuall cutting attachment says CA27-V. I tried to post a few minutes ago but I don't think it took. I didn't realize the torch I'm using has an arrestor so I installed the inline arrestors/check valves between the torch...

    Flash-Back Arrestor

Thank you. I went to the local welding shop today and unfortunately, they didn't carry parts for this torch set up. So I went ahead and purchased new B hoses for the torch that came with the tanks, as well as a set of good flashback/backflow equipment. The tip that is in the torch I have is...

    Settings for Chicago Electric

Super helpful info from everyone. Thank you. Does anyone have an opinion regarding Everlast Cyclone 140E? Sorry for the segway. I have an Everlast 200amp stick welder that seems to run well. It does lift Tig, although I've never tried it...or Tig welded at all for that matter.

    Flash-Back Arrestor

Marquette Lit-jet Model: 22-101 I've never held a torch in my life. I've recently slammed back maybe 50-75 hours of videos, read a crap ton of posts, articles, and even books on the subject over the past 6 months. I have a friend that gave me a small setup that you get in the plastic cady. I...

    Settings for Chicago Electric

I purchased it because it was on sale for $89 and like a teenage girl, I couldn't resist a sale. But I've noticed what you're talking about. It's almost impossible for a novice welder like me to dial it in. I have a decent stick welder but am still learning that as well. I'm getting the...

    Settings for Chicago Electric

I have a Chicago Electric 125 amp AC flux core machine I picked up from Harbor Freight. I have to weld up some 1/16 inch square tubing. I'm putting together a basic rectangle with right angles. I did not miter the corners, just butting them up. The final project will actually look more like an...

    Welding Table

Just to close this post out, I ended up getting that table. It's about 4 feet by 2+feet. It also has a lower metal shelf and I'm loving it. Set me back $20. Thanks again.

    Welding Table

I have an opportunity to pick up a pretty kick a$$ table. I'm new and need some advice. The legs and structure of the table are metal, the top is wood with 1/4" steel plate on top of the wood. Is this ok for welding? This table is for light use. I just need to find a place to put it. I haven't...
