    Rural VS City living

I move all the time for work, every time I move I tell the agent I want no HOA and the ability to shoot off the back porch before I’ll even look at a house. Had one that didn’t get the message until the second house she took us too didn’t meet those standards and I told her she was fired if she...

What are a reasonable rods to use ?

Me neither but I like 7018 a lot. Easiest for me to cover consistent results with. I’ve been doing a lot of 6011 and 6013, and I can’t do anything with 6013 but I have found 6011 pretty handy on the galvanized stuff I’ve been working with lately. If I was doing one rod, it would probably be...

    Show me your smoker!

I’m thinking a stationary heat source with two exhausts right now, just close the one your not using. I’ve got to actually get a tank to start drawing/playing with it.

    Pig Farrowing Box Build Thread

Got it up today, looks like it sized about right, she should be able to turn around inside once I get the divider in. Had to take a road trip to get it up to them since the storm washed out my road.

    Show me your smoker!

Has anyone seen a 250 gal propane tank on a swivel so you could have a large bed for doing a whole hog or rotate it for an upright smoker? Random idea that’s bouncing around in my very small brain.

    Pig Farrowing Box Build Thread

Wrapped up today. Made pins for the rear door, and for a removable deviders. Put in anti slip guides for moving it with the tractor forks. Tried to get a little fancy with my door stand, cut padlocks provided the hangers. Brackets ready for the dividers, just stick two pieces of tubing...

    Pig Farrowing Box Build Thread

Well it was free and I’m sick of rebuilding wood shelters. GA seems to eat a wooden animal shelter in 3-4 years unless it’s on a foundation  Otherwise I hear you, cost alone would drive it. This is salvaged everything. The screws are off a demo’ed mobile home, the pins minus two are made...

Supplemental 120V MIG Welder - Everlast vs HF Titanium vs Other

Every time Home Depot does a sale on the Lincoln 140’s I have a hard time passing them up but I just want it as something quick to plug into the wall for something small. And I have no justification/need for it so 6 would probably make me take it back anyway.

Some minor design tweaks to make it more pig proof/friendly. Welding done.

    Pig Farrowing Box Build Thread

Overdue project, pig farrowing box. 8' wide, 5' tall, 6' deep Day one progress, if the weather holds I should be able to wrap up tomorrow. Don't zoom in, most of those welds make me sick to look at:sick:

WeldingSite contest idea, need your suggestions

Whatever company wants to be a site sponsor. I think we could all bend the bonds of brand loyalty for that...otherwise blue. A gift certificate to an online welding supply place would be cool. Refill on consumables. Welding square or clamps for third prize. Can never seem to keep enough clamps...

    Vise stand

Well, after amazing reviews by the user of the vise stand (me) I decided to give my consumers the next thing on the list. Bench grinder stand. Scrap available. Cutting it close but it’ll work. For a new guy on rusty scrap? I’ll take that! Waiting for paint. Done, not bad for a morning...

    Show me your smoker!

Found a 250 gal propane tank that’s almost at the right price. Show me what you’ve built! I want to build something big enough for half a pig or so for church picnics and whatnot.

What to look for in a welder for Beginners

I’m teaching myself on stick. I like it a lot. Don’t have a lot to think about other than striking an arc. Lots of arguments for how easy MIG is to learn in but I figure the better arguments are you get a lot more technique with stick. Someday I hope to do aluminum boats so going to TIG more...

Feed mesh, aka hog panel in. Hinges out of the scrap parts box. Not bad for nothing but an die and angle grinder to work with. Quick pressure wash and ready for the paddock.

    1st!

Let’s get this party started. Working a replacement goat feeder right now. Have a bunch of galvanized stuff I literally pulled out of a dumpster. Nasty stuff but it works. Chopped. Had to think about hinges and how I wanted to hold the lid open. Testing the upper limits of my skill level...
