    What are you doing today?

I check in here most days. Things should pick up a little with members doing winter projects in their heated shops, something I don't have.......o_O Doing leaves and getting tractors ready for winter plowing.

    What is THIS?

I can't see how both those would be connected at the same time. The "B" acetylene and that may be a "Q" O2 tank are usually owned outright.

Process to cutting an old propane tank

I would think filling with water would be the way to go. I take it you are going to cut it with a cut off blade in a grinder rather than a torch......lol

    Rural VS City living

Rural on 1 1/2 acres. It's in a tiny hamlet, no store or anything. About 4 miles to town. I grew up and spent most of my life in a medium sized town 1/2 hr from Canada's largest city.....I much prefer rural.

Nice work adding the hydraulics. I built my own bucket from scratch, am still using the winch and trip dump. Would love to convert to hydraulics one day. I am doing about the same as you right now with the gravel.....lol

    Driveway Drag

I use an old set of harrows that I found to smooth my driveway. The spikes leave little grooves in the driveway..... I am planning on welding something flat on the top side and flip it over when I want to really flatten the driveway.

    Welding cable length question?

My old welder, the cable that the rod holder is one is about 15 ft long. The ground cable, I bet is 25 to 30 ft long, maybe longer. It is also thicker. Question is, does this matter? I know with electricity, the longer a wire, the more resistance it has. Would I be better to make the lengths...

Looks mainly like surface rust on the box Noel. Are there any rusted through spots? If so, I would patch using the mig welder for sure.

  28. poncho62

What are a reasonable rods to use ?

Here are some charts I found....
  29. poncho62

What are a reasonable rods to use ?

I bought a box of 7018 for my bucket build. They penetrate good and the welds hold well. The downside I find is that they tend to stick when starting and the flux is brittle.

    Bucket for garden tractor

Well, I found a bit of a design flaw in my build. Put some heavy rocks in the bucket and bent the bar that the lift pully sits on. Had to straighten it and add some support to it.

What do you have for fire extinguishers. ?

Lacking here, for sure.....I do have a fire extinguisher, no idea of the charge on it, been sitting by the garage door for years. I do most of my welding with the garage door open or outside.

    Bucket for garden tractor

Thanks....Used it to move my compost pile around a bit today. The trip bucket doesn't want to tilt when right at the top, have to lower it some, trip it then raise. Will see how it goes with heavier stuff.Might have to move the pivot point back a bit.

    Custom Built ATV/UTV Trailer

Nice trailer. I built one about 10 years ago. It could use a paint job and some fixing up now. I should get at it. I started with an old house trailer frame that was given to me. I shortened it from 24' to 16;, beefed up the crossmembers and put pressure traeted 2x10s on it.

I threw some castors on it this morning and took it for a test spin....There is no grass yet, but there were some leaves there that shot out pretty good. Will have to see when the grass grows. Hi Muhammad I see with your new forums, you are using the XenForo software. Another tractor site that I mod/admin on went to it a few months ago. Over there, we have the option of a dark mode background. Have to thought of using that? I find it much easier on my old eyes...lol. Just a...

    No gas welders?

I used to braze when doing body work back in the day, never tried gas welding. Would be interesting to see some threads on it.

    Show your stick welders

Thought it might be interesting to show what we use to weld with. I bought my old stick welder over 35 years ago at a garage sale for $75. It is a Wilson brand and has a Winchester (Canada) tag on it. Not sure if there was ever a Winchester gun factory here, but it looks like similar script I...

    Bucket for garden tractor

Well, I would love to have a loader. However, being retired and on a fixed income, I am not made of money. This will serve for what I need to do on my 1 acre.
  72. poncho62

    Fabrication Failures

None that really failed in the welding aspect, my welds usually hold pretty well even if they do look like crap. The first bucket I built was sort of a failure in the design aspect. I tried to use the hydro lift of the tractor to lift the bucket. Due to the geometry, I guess it just wasn't...

    Bucket for garden tractor

Well, I started it in the fall, but it got put aside during the cold weather (non heated shop)...Got back to it a couple of weeks ago. I had built another bucket a couple of years ago, but it was kind of hokey. This one lifts higher and holds more.
